淮安動物園原從1958年王姓“福興動物園”基礎上發(fā)展起來的。2012年9月16日，淮安老動物園關閉，園內動物遷往新址。新址主入口位于健康西路198號（柳樹灣廣場西側），次入口位于淮海西路與韓侯大道交界處東側。新園占地約25公頃，比原來擴大了近8倍，動物種類擴大3倍。新動物園占地約360畝，擁有各種動物籠舍2000平方米，動物六十多種近六百只。各種花草樹木數(shù)百種，綠化覆蓋率達90%以上。動物園擁有國家一級保護動物：東北虎、金錢豹、丹頂鶴、金雕、巨蜥、娃娃魚、白鸛、紅面鸛、白鶴、褐馬雞、大鴇、梅花鹿等。國家二級保護動物：亞洲象、斑馬、博士猴、蒙古野驢、小熊貓、黑熊、棕熊、大雁、恒河猴、鷯哥、黑禿鷲等。
淮安動物園門票，成人票30元；1.2米以下的兒童免票；1.2米-1.5米之間的兒童享半價15元。
